The Blocks

The Block System

The overarching objective of the Nagano Block System is to foster community ties, both within the regional block and the prefecture at large. Moreover, Block Leaders serve as the local points of contact for JETs and are part of a larger support network that provides JETs with information, advice and resources.

History and Overview:

*The block system today replaced the AJETs kohai-senpai approach and has been around since 2004-2005

*There are 5 blocks, ranging in size: Iida (11), Suwa-Ina(9), Ueda-Saku(14), Matsumoto (12), and Nagano (30). Blocks are based on prefectural boundaries and major centers for JETs

*Each block has 2 or 3 leaders. Block leaders are 2nd - 5th year JETs (ALTs or CIRs) who demonstrate leadership, motivation, and enthusiasm

*The block system aims to create community, support integration, and provide an exchange of resources and information
